Fibonacci Numbers

On Wednesday afternoon our teachers showed us fibonacci sequence. A fibonacci sequence is a number that gets added  by the number before it. For example 1 1 2 3 5 8 13 21 34 55 and so on. If you are wondering when the numbers stop they dont they can go on forever. Fibonacci sequence is even in nature. Our teachers said we had to make a fibonacci sequence with a grid I managed to get to 2584.

Speeches!

 Last week was Speeches. The topic had to be a about a changemaker, I choose Henry Ford. I choose Henry for because he created the Mass production of the Assembly line to build an Automobile. He also dropped the price for his vehicles and founded ford motors. Surprisingly I made it to the Speech Finals which is on Monday.

Over the weekend I didn't have much time to practise because I had reps on and we had to travel to palmerston north to play against them in soccer. On the day I was pretty nervous but in the end I think my speech turned out pretty good. I didn't end up winning but the after the speeches the Judge said there was most popular bird of the year and we got to say our bird on the radio. I choose a Tui.

Last Term!!!

This term I hope will be very exciting because we have quite a few things on this term. Also it is my last term at primary school so I hope it will be fun. 

This week we had athletics training after lunch for half an hour each training. Yesterday we did high jump and long jump. Our school athletics is in week 3 on Tuesday and I am looking looking forward to it. Also in week three is Speeches on Wednesday. Next week is year 6 camp for four days while the year fives have school. Since there aren't many year sixes this year instead of going to camp Kaitawa we are going to Hastings/Napier for camp.

In week 5 will be the craft fair and I hope I will be able to go. For project based learning we will be painting murals around the school in either groups of three or five. Also the kapa haka festival is in week 6 and we have to do training every morning when it isn't raining except for Friday.

Last Week of PBL

This week was the last week to finish our bird feeders. But we couldn't find any pine cones we looked at pines around the School but we could only find one. So our teacher suggested we use the frons of the pine trees. It actually worked pretty well the frons could stay up and wouldn't slip from the string. Our finished product looked pretty good.So in the end I think we did really well.

Pihitia Station trip

Just yesterday we went to Tristin's Dad's farm and they gave us a tour of the place. The first place my group went to was what farm vehicles they would use on a farm. There in front was a tractor, a motorbike, a quad bike and a truck. One of the people who came to help explained about what they used them for. Also, we got to see a drone flying around checking the farm in case of emergencies. After that, we watched what weighed the sheep and how you could tell their age. They could could tell their age by their 2 front teeth and how big they were. To weigh the sheep it would stand on a metal platform and weigh it in kg's if it went green it meant it would be going to the freezing works.

Then we got to see a few Sheep Dogs. Ones name was Cruise and other I forgot. Cruise was loud and the other dog was quiet. They do what you ask by doing certain whistles. Then we saw some people shear a sheep and show us how much it would cost for different parts of wool. Also, they showed us few things of what wool could create like jackets, socks, beanies and even a surfboard.

Next a person showed us most of the traps they used on the farm and what they caught. Some things they caught were stoats, ferrets and feral cats. There were different traps for different pests. Some of the traps could only be set once and some could go off 24 times without coming to reset. Then we got to see a cow and what it could make with all it´s milk like cheese, butter, calcium etc. And the very last thing they showed us was how they cut lamb what it would and what they used to cut it.

Project Based Learning Week 8

This week we had to make a video to the Principle of why we should be able to hang bird feeders. After the Principle checked our video she told us few things of what we had to work on. This week was a bit harder to get all our work done because we had to answer Koka Nolian´s questions. But we managed to get it done in time.We also had to gather all the materials.

Project Based Learning

This week the teachers chose some people for PBL (Project Based Learning). PBL is when you create a project that can either help the community or just to add to make the school better. My group is Robbie, me and Anroux. Our group name is RAM because it means Robbie, Anroux and Mako.  There are also 4 other groups in PBL. We were chosen because we were self-directed learners. A self-directed learner is a person when can manage themselves and their learning.  For PBL we decided to make bird feeders and birdhouses.

We decided to make bird feeders and bird houses because we have noticed a lot of hungry birds around that have been eating the scraps off the ground and we are making birdhouses because birds need somewhere to perch when they are tired. PBL goes on till week ten! Because of PBL, we don't have to do our Quick Writes and Word Work. We don't have to do those priorities because they take too long and we wouldn't probably have time to do PBL. Also, I will be updating my blog post every week!

Automata

 Hi on Wednesday MLH had some relievers in class. They said we were going to make automatas. The term automata means self acting. A mechanical device which performs function determined instructions.. In and automata there are thing called cams which make the toy move up and down. A cam could be a circle, drop, heart and pair exc. Koka joe gave us some pieces of paper with what we needed to know. Me and Robbie completed the paper so we could build our automata on Wednesday.

Interschool Soccer

 Interschool Soccer

Last week I had Inter School Soccer. When I arrived there were a whole bunch of Schools already there. The Soccer games were 18 minutes long but the Referees sometimes let the games go longer. The first team we were going to face didn't show up so we won our first game. The next game we played was Central they were one of the best teams. We ended up winning by 3 points.

We won 2 more games and then we were in the semi finals. The team we were facing to get in the finals was Manutuke it was a very close game but in the last second we scored a goal and won!We were in the finals! Mangapapa was the team we were facing in the finals. I was the goalie, I had to save lots of goals some went high, some went low, some went left, and some went right. I missed two goals. We had lost against Mangapapa 2-0. Even though we lost we felt pretty good for participating and making it to the finals.

Maths Whizz

This week the teachers in MLH showed us a maths website called Math Whizz. Math Whizz is a math website that helps you with your learning. The website is made to stay at your level. When you get a question wrong or click pass it will give you an easier question. If you get the question right it will give you a slightly harder question. When you finish the math task it will give you credits so you can buy stuff for your avatar. You can also earn crystals and diamonds. I have made 4 progressions and i have 95% pass rate.

Word Work

Today i will be telling you what Word work is. Word work is when you get a sheet of paper and you have to end words, write sentences with the words on the sheet of paper, unscramble words, write as many words you can out of one long word and add the missing words in sentences. Then you have to check it off in the check in once you´ve done 2. Then your done.

How to write a quality Blog comment

Today I will be telling you how to write quality blog comment in nine steps.
  1. The first step is to start with a greeting like hi, kia ora or hello?
  2. Next you start with something good they've done in their writing.
  3. Does the blog remind you of something, have you been there before?
  4. Then add a bit more information.
  5. After that you ask them a question or something they could work on.
  6. Now re read your comment to check if it makes sense.
  7. Check for spelling or punctuation.
  8. Then check with a teacher or a friend.
  9. After that PUBLISH!

Moana Learning Hub site!

Hi today I will be telling you about Moana Learning Hub site. On the MLH sites you can click on links to find your Priorities or go on the Check off and mark your work off. It also tells you when you have workshops and when you have time to do Priorities. There are also some quotes on there to. You can find out what Reading, Writing or Maths workshop you are in incase you forgot. Oh and one last thing they use bitMojis!

I think the Moana learning hub site is very helpful. Because there are lots of links you can click on and it tells you what to do on the slides. Maybe the Teachers could add some more bitMoji links on the MLH site like on workshops or to find your reading group they could add bitmoji links so you don't have to scroll for ages incase you were in a hurry.  That is why I think the Moana Learning Hub site is helpful.

Huia

Hi today I will be telling you about my reading group. I am in Huia, it is the highest reading group in my class.  This week we had to do some research either on a innovator or a person who created a invention. We had to research about innovator and inventions because New Zealand is known for their number 8 wire mentality. A invention is the first thing ever created and a innovator is a like a update or a upgrade of something else. It wasn't too hard to research everything but it felt good in the end. Maths

 Hi today I will be telling you about my maths. I am in the highest group. We had to do a p.a.t maths test. I got 8 correct answers and 8 incorrect answers. I was good at number knowledge but wasn't too good at geometry and measurement.

We have to go on a maths web called E-ako Maths.The teacher puts flags on the things you need to do. We do it for 20-30 mins everyday. It's pretty fun. It teaches a lot too. I will be practising my geometry and measurements because i'm not too good at it.

Back to school

When I walked into the school it felt very different because I hadn't been there for a long time. I noticed not many kids were at school yet because I get to school early. It felt good to be at school again. When my friends arrived it felt good to see them again and finally I wouldn't be bored.


When the bell rang we headed to our class’s and sanitized our hands and sat down on the mat. The teacher said a few things that would be different and things that would be the same.This week we were going to be learning about clouds and the weather. The first thing I worked on was the weather forecast. We had to fill in a cloze text to complete the second part of the task. The second task is to write a script and then screencastify yourself doing the weather.


 After that it was Lunch and we went outside to play. When we came in from lunch we did read to self for 15 minutes. Then we started some world art. After that the bell rang and we all went home. It felt good to be at school.

Swimming sports

When we got to Enterprise for swimming sports I was super excited and nervous. A new kid called Ethan had started school. So I thought I would finally have a challenge. When I realized I wasn't swimming anyone who was a threat to me I was pretty disappointed but at least I would make it into the finals. I got first in all my heats, so now it was down to the finals and I finally had a challenge. 

When I stepped onto the starting block I was really excited. BEEP! The buzzer had been pressed I dived in and swam like a fish. I ended up getting 1st in freestyle and got second in backstroke.  So all I had to do was get 1st in breaststroke. BEEP! I dived in like a spear and swam like a shark. When I hit the wall with two hands. I had gotten second. I may have have not won the trophy this year but I was 
happy that someone had finally beat me.

1st week of 2020

School couldn't have started any better. We got a nice welcome from our teachers. I had a nice holiday did you?Anyway on the first day of school we did a people bingo we all got a little tiny piece of paper that had something to do with a animal and we had to find other people that had something to do with your word. For example my word was pig and i had to connect it up with oink, curly tail and so on. When you found that you could find no more people who had a word that matches. You would have your buzz group. If you don't what a buzz group is a buzz group is when you work with people who you don't usually work with and you do stuff in a group that requires teamwork.


On the second day of school we did our first Quick write. The quick write was chocolate vs cheese. I chose chocolate. Because dark chocolate is one the most healthiest thing in the world. We also made our tote tray labels. If you don't no what a tote tray is it is a place where you keep your stationery and the label is so you know who's tote tray it is.
